Volunteerism at OVWS

Orchard Valley Waldorf School was founded by families committed to offering their children a Waldorf education and to creating a supportive school community that continues to thrive through strong parent involvement.

We do not have gardeners, painters or carpenters. All of these tasks and more are filled through the loving support of our community members.

Parent involvement instills in our children a sense of responsibility for their school and a feeling that it is an extension of their family life, while creating a strong and healthy community for everyone!

When you join our school community you are asked to share your individual interests and skills in some of the following areas:

Helping out in your child's class

Your child’s teacher may ask for your support in various ways throughout the year, such as help chaperoning a field trip or making costumes for the class play.

Outreach and development

You are invited to participate in fundraising events such as the annual appeal and the winter faire, which can be a great way to get to know other families in our school community.

Board membership

The board is responsible for the legal and financial health of the school, and you are welcome to apply to be on the board, or to join a board committee like the facilities committee, finance committee, development committee, or DEI committee.

Seasonal festivals

We celebrate many festivals throughout the year and you will be invited to be involved in various ways from helping out making apple cider during Michaelmas to sharing flowers from your garden for Mayfest.

Facilities support

If you have carpentry skills and are willing to donate some of your time then you are welcome to help out with fixing and maintaining our school buildings! And if you don't have advanced skills but youre a confident handy person, we always have the little projects that come with a well used space like tightening cubby hooks and fixing latches.

Grounds and outdoors

We place incredible value on our outdoor spaces, and we want them to be well maintained. We always need help with activities like spreading wood chips, pruning trees, weed whacking, and more. If you want an excuse to spend some time outside on our beautiful land, this is a great way to help out!
