Rose Ceremony, First Day of School

With the first day of school we come together to celebrate our rising first graders, as well as our community as a whole. The Rose Ceremony is a lovely way to begin another joyous school year at OVWS!

The Rose Ceremony is a festive occasion marking a unique time in the life of the rising first graders who are leaving Early Childhood behind. This traditional community gathering and procession is filled with songs, music, goldenrod, roses, and new friendships between 8th graders and first grade "buddies." As we sing our traditional welcoming songs, a pathway is created for the rising first graders to begin their school life journey joyfully nested in the community represented by a concentric circle of teachers and students, parents and friends.

We invite you all to join us in this celebration and in welcoming the new school year.
