Orchard Valley Waldorf School provides an education for over 120 students in grades 1-8 and 60 students in two Kindergartens and two Nursery classes. We have a large and dynamic faculty and staff, with a diverse mix of experience and backgrounds.

Central Vermont is home to many family-oriented and recreational opportunities located in the heart of the Green Mountains. It is a region of rich natural beauty, surrounded by maple and spruce trees and filled with creeks, rivers, and lakes.  Montpelier is the state capital and home of many cultural and recreational events. We serve a wide range of families drawing students from several central Vermont counties – Washington, Lamoille, Caledonia and Orange.

The local chapter of the Anthroposophical Society, the Green Mountain Branch, sponsors study groups, festivals and conferences.

Positions Currently Available:

We seek teachers with Waldorf training and teaching experience. The ability to work harmoniously through openness and a commitment to building inner strength through the living practice of anthroposophy are qualities we seek in our faculty. The school’s wage and benefits include health insurance and 80% tuition remission for dependent children enrolled at OVWS.

Pre-School Teacher

We anticipate a class of 15 children ages 3 – 5 attending 2, 3 or 5 days per week from 8:30 – noon. We cap the total number of families enrolled in this program at 24 with 15 children attending daily. Orchard Valley has a formal partnership with the area public school as one of three options for families seeking publicly funded pre-school for their three and four year old child. We offer an afternoon program noon to 5:00 taught by a separate teacher. Position includes responsible for supervising/guiding their assistant and shares the supervision of the aftercare program. Both teachers at this satellite program collaborate in the work associated with the care of this facility. This is a longstanding and highly regarded Waldorf early childhood program situated in a cozy farmhouse with access to beautiful fields and woodland trails and celebrating its 20th year.

Grade 6 Class Teacher 

This is a dynamic class of 18 children - a cohesive, bright, wholesome class with a supportive parent body. Their 1st – 5th grade class teacher will be returning to take the first grade in the fall. The school trusts there is an experienced middle school Waldorf teacher who will come to complete the educational journey with this group of children. We invite experienced teachers, interested in committing to this class through grade eight, to apply.

French Teacher, Grades 1 – 8 for the period of August 15 – December 23, 2012

This is a temporary full-time teaching position without benefits. We seek applicants with French language teaching experience, a familiarity with Waldorf teaching methods and a keen interest in this dynamic work with children in first through eighth grade, recess duties, mentorship and the possibility of attending a week long Renewal Course in teaching French in a Waldorf School (grades 1 – 3).
