About Us

Thank you for your interest in Orchard Valley Waldorf School!  With locations in Montpelier and East Montpelier, the Orchard Valley Waldorf School is currently serving more than 120 children in grades 1-8 and 60 children in our early education programs. Our East Montpelier campus is located on a beautiful 55-acre property set on rolling hills, extensive river frontage, and spectacular views. A renovated farmhouse accommodates our early education programs and a converted apple barn houses the grade school. The children and faculty of Orchard Valley Waldorf School make full use of the natural surroundings for study, play, discovery and a genuine reverence for the natural world. The visual and performing arts — including sculpting, painting, woodworking, drawing, drama, and music — form an integral part of the academic curriculum. The Child’s Garden is a satellite early childhood center located in Montpelier. It occupies a farmhouse on a 150-acre tract of land with hills, open meadows and forest. We use the open space for hiking, festivals and lots of sledding in the winter months.

Our parent body is a supportive and very involved group. Our school sponsors annual festivals for our school community each year including Michaelmas, Halloween Walk, Martinmas, Lantern Walk, Winter Spiral and Mayfest. The Fall into Winter Fair in November and the Spring into Summer Celebration in May are our major fundraising events and are open to the public. Throughout the year, we host various parent education lectures and workshops on aspects of Waldorf education and child development. Please keep in mind that although we follow a consistent curriculum throughout the grades, no two Waldorf schools are exactly alike. A visit is really a must if you would like to learn more about us!
